Oh Holy Shit...

So remember how last month I mentioned that DBF and I are moving in together?

Well about that time, we decided to look into the possible fact that maybe we could buy a house. We found a house. And last week made an offer. And they accepted our offer - after a few counteroffers to agree on a price. (OH HOLY SHIT!!)

We're having our inspection done this afternoon and hopefully will have a set close date in the next couple days. But regardless, as long as the inspection and financing go through, we'll have the house by the end of April. (HAVE I SAID OH HOLY SHIT YET?!)

This has all happened much faster than either of us anticipated. Especially when we realize that it wasn't that long ago we even decided to give it a try. It just makes way too much sense not to. So we are.

I don't have any pictures of the house yet. I know, I know... for shame! But as soon as I get some I'll put em up.

Grey's Anatomy S5ep17

No Meredith narrating tonight! w00t!!

Callie's pity party didn't interest me. Neither did George's attempts to throw himself into work to forget about his best friend being inches away from death (too much like the writers have been ignoring him all season to all of a sudden realize, hey, we forgot about George! Let's give him a storyline, but what wouldn't seem awkward after more than half a season of nothing?).

What did interest me...

The old woman who refused to die. Proof that doctors do not always know everything. And that even when you expect death, the emotion of the loss when it happens will still knock the breath out of you and push you to your knees in heartache.

Bailey. Have I mentioned how much I love her? She leans, pushes and forces them to do better. To become better. Even Izzie who is lying in a hospital bed about to have the first of many surgeries, she insists that she continue her education.

Derek's proposal in the elevator with the files and X-rays of the cases he and Meredith worked together. I'm not a big fan of Der-Mer (mostly because I'm not a fan of Meredith), but that proposal was perfect for the two of them. When he started putting roses in their room a few weeks ago to propose, it didn't feel right. It really made me wonder if he knows her at all. But this, tonight, couldn't have been more perfect.

Alex. How can you not love a man who cries as the love of his life lies in a bed after surgery? Naturally, he's in pain. And he doesn't know what to do. This was the guy who couldn't even handle a semi-relationship the first time around. And now he's donating sperm so they can have babies. He's crawling into bed with her. And loving her so very fiercely that tears roll down his face when he sees her lying there vulnerable and dying.

And cannot forget...

Cristina and Owen. I don't know how the writers did it. But they've taken two of the most intense, hardcore characters and put them in the sweetest love story I may have ever seen on TV. Sigh. You know it's not over for the two of them.

LOST S5ep10

Sayid-centric episodes never seem as good to me as Sawyer or even Jack episodes. I don't know why.

Well, now at least we know how Sayid came to be on the flight to Guam. Which I was definitely interested to know considering that he was so insistent on not going back. And that bounty hunter (what's her name?) I bet works for Ben. Now whether she knows it's Ben or not, I don't know.

He may have grown and matured a lot, but Sawyer is still looking out for himself first. He wanted to help Sayid out only to preserve his life with Dharma. Not to help Sayid. That's a bit of the old Sawyer returning.

I think the book Ben handed Sayid was A Separate Beauty. Since the writers of this show love to use literary references - both obvious and not-so-obvious ones - I'm expecting this book to have at least a slightly important meaning to the greater Lost story. But I couldn't find a book with that name on Amazon. Anyone know of it?

I had expected Sayid to have a desire to kill, or at least hurt, young Ben. But to see him actually shoot the kid was still shocking. Now, I'm not an expert at time travel and how it works. But since young Ben is dead, doesn't this mean that the 2007 Ben will disappear? Drop off the face of the Earth? Or are those two threads of time moving along simultaneously? Still, that has to have some effect on 2007 Ben. Unless 1977 Ben isn't really dead.

ANSWER - Tuesday Trivia: Planets

Why was the planet nearest the sun given the name Mercury?

The ancient Romans named the planet after the swift-footed messenger of the gods because it orbits the sun faster than any other planet - in 88 days.

Congratulations to Mochaface friend Chris for being the first - and only - one to get the answer!

Crafty Crafty

My sister's getting married. And as maid of honor, naturally, part of my duties is to throw the lingerie shower/bachelorette party.

I wanted to make the invitations myself. So I went Paper Source and got some cards and envelopes in some of her colors as well as some matching paper to line the envelopes.

I think they turned out really well. It was so much fun that I may have to do a lot more of this.

Grey's Anatomy S5ep16

Crap, did this episode make me want to cry.

I can understand why Derek brings down Owen and Callie. Remember when Addison was back in Seattle and she asked him to be a god? That's Derek. He's such a good surgeon that he practically teeters on the edge of divinity. So when Derek has a crisis of faith and starts to question why he should continue as a surgeon and how he can live with himself, everyone else who has found a way to deal with it begins to question whether they deserve that chance to move forward.

Owen is clearly a broken man. And that is so obvious in the stories he chooses to tell about his medical career. When Derek said I thought you'd talk about Iraq and Owen's response was I don't talk about Iraq, you could just tell the anguish he's been through - and is still going through - because of what he witnessed serving in the Army. (Although, I do believe he told an Iraq story to Cristina when he was drunk and in her shower. I may be mistaken.) Did anyone else notice that they've dropped the Mc- nicknames? Cristina and Meredith called Owen G.I. Joe tonight. Not McJoe. Not McSoldier (I kinda like that one.) Maybe they didn't want to over do it.

Blowhole did some fabulous acting - and that makeup job was unbelievable.

Oh, lord, all the intern drama. Hilarious how George and Meredith insisted they stay out of it and that they weren't nearly as bad. Oh yeah they were. So glad that Bailey was there to remind them of that. And absolutely loved how George told Meredith that was so Bailey after she told off the interns in the bathroom. Our residents are finally growing into their roles as teachers and paying the interns the attention they deserve and need so they can become better doctors.

Friendship was obviously the theme for the episode. Blowhole's friends. Derek's friends. Izzie's friends. How friends will surprise you with the fierceness of their love and support just when you think you don't deserve it. Or you think they won't be so willing to give it to you.

You can't blame Cristina for blabbing Izzie's news. It was affecting her job. And when your job is to operate on people, you can't let shit like that affect you. Izzie thought she needed someone who wouldn't break down on her to be the one she shared her cancer secret with. Only she didn't realize what she really needed was to be told to fight, that someone needed her to fight because of how important she is to that person. So when Cristina finally told her I want you to fight, she was finally able to stop feeling sorry for herself and accept what she needs to do.

And, wow, just wow. Alex's face when he heard the news. My heart broke for him.

LOST S5ep9

So the people that were on the plane (obv except for Jack, Kate, Sayid and Hurley) are still in 2007. DBF guessed right a couple weeks ago when he suggested that. (Damn him for being right.) I don't understand how those four could travel back to 1977 fine but the rest of the plane's passengers were stuck in 2007. What's different about those four? Anyone have any theories?

When Kate and Juliet saw each other again, there was clearly so much being said that wasn't actually spoken. You could read it in their eyes. (What great acting! Just incredible!!) Juliet's starting to get territorial over Sawyer like Kate did over Jack when Juliet first came into their group. Interesting how they fought over Jack and now they'll be fighting over Sawyer. I wish someone would just tell them, Look there's two of them and two of you. That makes it easy and even. As long as Kate and Sawyer end up together.

Sawyer has seemed to step into the leader role almost effortlessly. I think it's his background in conning that's made him the clear leader as the group tried to merge into the Dharma Initiative. It's those skills that have kept their story accurate and believable to Dharma. He was right in his assessment of Jack's leadership style. Jack acted first and thought later. When he tried the argument that he got them off the Island, I was shouting at the TV that that clearly wasn't the best idea. Naturally, Jack didn't hear me, but Sawyer did remind Jack that he's now back where he started (thanks Sawyer!).

What was that security guy's name? The one that was in the last episode? Phil? Whatever his name is, didn't look like he really believed the whole story of Jack, Kate and Hurley. I wonder what his deal is.

Did you notice how Sawyer sidestepped Jack's question about Farraday? I suspect he is dead. Only how, I don't know. Maybe he killed himself because of his grief over Charlotte? DBF thinks he just left the Island. I don't think so. Though he was right about the time difference between Hurley, Kate, Jack & Sayid and the rest of the passengers. So who knows.

Ethan was born on the Island?! What implications does that have? Shit, I love this show.

And little Ben at the end of the episode really didn't come as much of a surprise. We've known since Season 3 that Ben and his dad came to the Island so Roger could work for the Dharma Initiative. And since our Losties have gone back to the 70s and also joined Dharma, it's an easy jump to reach the conclusion that they'll come into contact with young Ben. It will be interesting though to see how that all plays out.

An Apple a Year...

Well it's been about a year since my last iPod saga. So it should be no surprise that I, yet again, have had drama with damn thing.

This time around it was the sound. I would start a playlist or something, and after a couple minutes, all I would hear is static. Or nothing. This happened mostly in the car on the AM/FM adapter at first. I was still able to listen to it fine while I worked out.

Then about a month ago, it started given me static even when I was on the elliptical.

So I caved and took it back to Best Buy. Though that particular one was a refurbished model I received thanks to their product replacement plan when the original crapped out on me. I figured since the replacement plan hadn't expired yet it should extend to the refurbished iPod.

And I was right dammit!

So now I have another refurbished iPod (my fourth iPod total in case you're keeping track). And with this one, I can actually hear the music. Shocker, I know. That I should be able to listen to music on a device that plays music.

Fingers crossed this one lasts me a while. Though after three previous issues only a year in on each iPod, I'm not holding out hope that I won't have to buy a brand new one a year from now.

Grey's Anatomy S5ep15

Well, George had considerably more scenes tonight. At least 3. Very impressive.

Bailey tattled on Richard to his wife. That was about the funniest scene I've seen Grey's do in a while. They were both behaving like children. And they deserved the talking-to they got.

What an idiotic move Derek! That was your grandmother's ring. You do NOT throw away jewelry like that. I hope someone finds that ring, and it's not just completely lost.

Does Meredith still have issues with Richard because of his affair with her mother? I thought she had gotten over that a long time ago. But based off what he said when he went to her to ask for help to get Derek back in the hospital, I'm not so sure.

Owen and Cristina are about the sweetest couple on TV. And what's kind of ironic is that they're not sweet people. They're both so hard core, blunt and way super serious. But together, they're softer, warmer. That moment when she tells him that it takes more than a bad dream to scare her away, and she caresses the side of his face (because it was softer than a touch, the only possible word for it is caress), it felt so intimate. So vulnerable. And that is something we've never seen before from Cristina.

Alex has become a great doctor. His bedside manner is so much better now. He's more considerate. But at the same time, he's still focused on what he wants, and the fact that he is committed to Izzie is very touching. Although apparently Alex still has some room to grow as he's been so focused on himself that he's not really noticed anything wrong with Izzie while George has.

I about melted along with Lexie when Mark told her that she didn't break him, she fixed him. He could charm the pants off anyone. Seriously. Anyone.

Evil Plans

As all women know, being a bridesmaid is hard work. Depending on whether your dealing with a bridezilla or not can determine how much stress the job is.

Thankfully, all of the brides that have asked me to be a part of their special day (an honor from every single one of them) have been really pretty laid back. And my sister is not a bridezilla. Yet. (I kid, I kid!) There has been a shower every weekend for the past three weeks. And there's still two more to go. One of which I get to plan.

The lingerie shower/bachelorette party.

Oh, yeah, the really fun one!

She's already nervous about what I got in store. I don't think any of it is that terrible. But, my sister embarrasses a lot easier than I do. Of course, I do plan to embarrass her a little bit. Something to do with a stick horse and a scavenger hunt that she has no idea what items she's asking for from random guys.

I'm starting to feel a bit behind though. I need to get the invitation so they can be sent in the next couple weeks.

If anyone has any really fun ideas, I'm open to hearing them.

Book Review: East of Eden

East of Eden by John Steinbeck

This book is one of my top 5 favorite books of all time. It's one of those epic novels that when you finish it you're so overwhelmed by all the detail, emotion and conflict of the book that you can't put words to how you feel about it.

It's one of those books that takes several readings just to wrap your arms around the story.

East of Eden is the ultimate story, according to Steinbeck. Good vs. evil. Based on the Genesis story of Cain and Abel, the story starts out with Charles and Adam. And eventually moves to Adam's sons Cal and Aron.

But good vs. evil is not the only theme. Nature vs. nuture. Redemption. Father-son relationships. The freedom to choose good or evil.

It's a long book, but because Steinbeck is a such a stellar, truly amazing author and his writing is so rich and vivid, it does not feel like it's that long.

This is THE great American novel. And I cannot say enough good things about it. So read it!

LOST S5ep8

Sigh. I heart Sawyer. I was yelling at the screen when he and Juliet were professing their love to each other. No! He's supposed to be with Kate. He LOVES Kate. NOT Juliet!!!!

And then again I was having trouble keeping my exasperation quiet when he was explaining to Horace that you can get over someone in 3 years. Not Sawyer. Not HIS feelings for Kate.

Of course, I was prepared for the pairing of Sawyer and Juliet. They were left behind together. They have needs. It was a clear course for the writers to take. But that didn't mean I wanted to see it actually play out.

And then Hurley and Jack got out of the van. The look on Sawyer's face was clearly one of hope and anticipation at seeing Kate. And when she stepped out from behind Hurley, I sighed. Because it's still there. You could see it in his eyes. HE LOVES HER. Now what's going to happen with Juliet I have no idea. Maybe she'll go back to Jack. Which would be fine by me. Sawyer and Kate. That's all I ask.

So clearly there's a time where babies can be had on the Island. What happens to make that impossible?

Saw the full four-toed statue. From behind. So we couldn't see what it actually it is. But still. It was there.

Just gotta say, Richard Alpert, that way he walked into the compound, total badass. He seems clueless recently every time he comes into contact with our Losties because of all the time travel. But total badass. He's probably got a lot of the answers we're looking for.

Didn't see Daniel in the 3 years later parts. Wonder if that means something happens to him when he tries to talk to little Charlotte.

Sigh. I heart Sawyer.

I Hope They Don't Revoke My Texas Citizenship

I don't like country music. Haven't ever since I discovered Nirvana and Pearl Jam back in middle school.

So when some friends invited DBF and I to a Roger Creager concert, I wasn't exactly pre-ordering tickets. But I knew he enjoyed his music, so I told DBF about the invitation and agreed to go (I must love him if I willingly went to a country, even Texas country, concert).

The music was enjoyable enough, though I still didn't get into it that much. It was the people watching as the reason why I really went. That and the chance to get DBF on the dance floor. Let's just say he's in serious need of some dancing lessons. But he definitely gets points for trying.
