Summer's officially here

Sam Adams Summer Ale has arrived! Here's my first bottle of this delicious nectar for the summer. I don't care if it's only April, summer is here baby!

Release date for HP7

Rumors have it that Deathly Hallows part one will be released in theaters November 19, 2010... two years after Half-Blood Prince, which is scheduled for a November 2008 release. Part two is rumored to be released May 2011.

Two years between the movies? What the hell are they thinking??

LOST S4ep9

Wow. Wow. What an awesome episode.

And I don't mean the part at Camp Jack. Though seeing the Freighties squirm at being found out that they're not planning to take them off the Island and lying about the Morse code was a lot of fun. Jack is certainly losing his patience and maybe a little of his grip on sanity. And I was wrong about the dead body... it wasn't Regan (Reagan?).

And I don't mean the part about Sayid and Nadia. Though I am glad that he found her and had some happiness with her, even if it was brief. And I enjoyed watching Ben manipulate him into becoming his assassin. Because Ben is the master manipulator.

And I don't mean the part at Camp Locke. Though I loved watching Sawyer care for and protect Claire, Aaron and Hurley. He has grown so much and being on the Island has certainly done wonders for his personal character. He's letting people in and sacrificing himself to help others. What huge steps for Sawyer! I am so sad that Alex is dead. I kept hoping that maybe she really wasn't, but sadly she is. I really enjoyed watching her though I'm sure we'll see her again as no one is really dead on LOST.

What I mean is Ben. His story was so compelling and we learned so much and at the same time are left with more questions. Ben is definitely creepy (especially how he knows, and remembers, so much about everyone). Michael Emerson does an incredible job playing this role. He really brings the character to life. Ben's been to Tunisia, where Charlotte found the polar bear bones, more than once. Whatever that clerk chick read when she looked up his alias definitely freaked her out and made her compliant. Wonder what it was.

But two of the biggest things (at least for me) were that Smoky is controlled by Ben and that Ben and Charles actually know each other. You certainly don't want to piss Ben off (one sure way being kill his daughter) because he will not hesitate to bring his wrath down on you like a black smoke monster you can't shoot and kill but that can pick you up and throw you around.

The best scene of this whole episode was at the end in Charles' bedroom. The mutual loathing that Ben and Charles have for each other was so clear. And Ben's statement about killing Penelope was not surprising. But why can't Ben kill Charles? Some kind of pact between them? Or can he physically not do it? Which doesn't make any sense either, but I have no clue. But I'm thinking of how Michael couldn't kill himself because according to Mr. Friendly the Island won't let him. And how did the Island come belong to Charles? And how did he lose it to Ben? And if he had it, why won't he be able to find it? Oh there is so so much I want to know.

What did you think? Did you love the Ben-centric episode as much as I did?

Grey's Anatomy S4ep12

Welcome back Grey's Anatomy!

Loved the competition. Since they're all competitors it was very fun to see them trash talk each other and obsess over what procedures will get them the most points. Even Izzie who is generally the sweeter, kinder person of the group became hard core in order to win. She may not have thought she was hard core, but like George told her she definitely is. And naturally Meredith won. Tumor touchdown!

Loved the Chief's advice... "Scars are the sign of a competitor"

Definitely interesting to see Cristina struggle between the competition and her desire to win and her desire to impress Erica and become her mentee. Clearly, Cristina was thinking long-term when she decided to stay and observe the surgery. Of course, you know Erica was doing it to torment Cristina a bit, see how committed she is and so she'd learn that winning is not always everything. Still not sure she learned that lesson.

Meredith is finally (FINALLY!) getting help. I'm hoping that this helps me to like her a little more. And speaking of therapy, does anyone else think her therapist looks a bit like her step mother? I know they're not the same person but they look an awful lot a like. I wonder if they did that on purpose. To give Meredith a mother figure.

Not sure if the bear guy and his waitress wife were supposed to remind Meredith of her and Derek or of Derek and Rose. Because technically, Meredith could have been his rebound girl from Addison and Mark. But then Rose could be his rebound girl from Meredith. Clearly, Derek has a thing for rebound girls. He's determined to make them work. But my guess is that it's supposed to be Derek and Rose and make Meredith nervous that Rose isn't just a temporary thing and that she might have lost her McDreamy. Rumor has it (from Shonda herself so I guess it's not much of a rumor) that by the end of this season Meredith and Derek will be back together, for good. I'm not too thrilled about it but I'm hoping that Meredith grows and I can learn to like her.

Lexie is so desperate for friends, for family, that she is living in a dump and steals stuff from the hospital so George would feel at home and maybe start thinking of her the way he thinks of his other friends. She was adorable standing in that dump at the end pleading with George to give it a chance. This girl is clearly looking for some love.

And George realizing how much of a pain he is, grows up a little bit and becomes a little bit more of a man deserving of the honor of namesake for Bailey's kid. Awesome.

I much prefer Mark scruffy though he's still freaking hot. So cute, though not surprising, that he's getting impatient with Derek. He's ready for "our time" and doesn't understand why Derek continues to be in a relationship, one woman after the other. Though I think Derek is partially right in his analysis about Mark... more and more women are starting to see through his charm to his man-whore ways. But in truthiness, I think Mark just misses Derek and their friendship. He's admitted before that Derek is his family.

What did you think about tonight's episode?

The next trend.... penis theft

Apparently in Congo, men have to worry about sorcerers stealing or shrinking their penises. 13 suspects have been arrested for penis snatching.

It certainly makes for an interesting day on the job for the crime scene investigators. "Excuse me sir, I need to dust your penis for fingerprints."

But what a great business idea. Scorned women everywhere could get their revenge.

I'm dreaming of a white April

Don't adjust your screens. That picture is from the crazy ass storm that came through North Texas last night. And it's not snow... it's hail. My friend Lindsey took this pic outside her apartment. (I didn't have any hail at my place last night so I'm stealing using yours but I'm linking back to you hon!)

MFY overreact? Never!

You may have heard about the Red Sox jersey that was buried in the concrete at the Yankees' new stadium being built. It was supposed to be a prank, a kind of jinx on the MFY (only the guy hid it underneath the visitor's locker room instead of the MFY's). Well, the MFY wasted no time in digging it up so there would be no curse. Well, this guy has a strong opinion on their reaction that resulted in water sprayed on my screen...

Why I Love Twitter

You may remember my Twitter confession from a couple weeks ago. Problogger, aka Darren Rowse, asked the question "Why do you love Twitter?"a few days ago and compiled this video with the answers he received. While I missed the conversation and didn't get to submit why I love Twitter, it is fun to see what everyone said. And maybe it'll convince you to check out this fun tool...

The Final Five

No, I don’t mean the final five Cylons. Though DBF has gotten me hooked on BSG, this has not become a sci-fi blog.

I mean the final five episodes of LOST. I don’t know about you but I’m so excited to get new episodes again. Thank goodness the strike ended when it did otherwise we wouldn’t have gotten anything new until 2009 most likely.

Anyway, Entertainment Weekly’s Doc Jensen has a great article with an excellent look at what we can expect from the final episodes of Season 4. I’ve included the highlights below but you can click here to read the full article. (CAUTION: The rest of this is a bit spoiler-y. Consider yourself warned.)

  • A dead body washes up on shore at Camp Jack – perhaps Regan? (or is it Reagan?)
  • “Raging gunfight that will decimate Camp Locke” – perhaps part of how Hurley ends up with Jack?
  • The reveal of how the Oceanic 6 gets off the Island and what happens to those that remain
  • The reveal of why Sayid is Ben’s hitman for hire
  • Who is in the bloody coffin -- Michael??
  • Episode 9 “The Shape of Things to Come” (what an ominous title!) will be a Ben-centric flash forward and will return to the Sayid and Nadia storyline
  • We’ll see a new side of Smokey, the black smoke monster
  • Claire gets a new, major storyline – Possibly something to do with why Kate is raising Aaron instead of Claire?
  • Episode 10 will be a Jack-centric flash forward where the movement from Strong Island Jack to Weak Future Jack will be revealed
  • New Dharma station The Orchid which is likely to reveal more about the Island’s time warp capabilities
  • The returns of Penelope, Richard Alpert and Matthew Abaddon
  • The finale is supposed to complicate the Jack-Kate-Sawyer triangle with a “spectacular kiss”
  • Also the finale is promised to be another game-changing twist, which is code-named “The Frozen Donkey Wheel” – Think I read somewhere that donkey wheel is another name for a water mill. Can’t remember where so I could just be pulling that out of my butt

There are also videos of Doc interviewing the makes-my-heart-flutter Josh Holloway, Michael Emerson and Jorge Garcia.

Also, I read somewhere (can't remember where or there'd be a link) that there's going to be an "amazing death" at some point during the next five episodes.

LOST returns to ABC April 24 at 10/9 central <--- Wow, that sounds like an ABC promo. Just set your freakin TiVos so you don't miss it!

Hump Day Humor: Adventures Off the Pill

Here's a fall out of your chair funny account of one woman going off the pill:

What Life Looks Like On The Pill

Days 1 - 26

Sweet, chemically induced uterine silence.

Day 27

Anne: Hi, Period. I have you down for arrival tomorrow, sometimes between noon and five. I’ll take some accommodations in the gym bag just in case you get here before lunch. And I’ll be starting up new pills on Sunday, so I am expecting you to clear out of here by Monday morning. Will there be anything else?

Period: No, Ma’am. I can’t believe I fell for that whole chemically induced false pregnancy thing again. You sure are a trickster, Anne. Anyway, pleasure to be working with you.

Anne: Hope you enjoyed your stay at Chez Nahm Uterus. See you again next month.

.

What Life Looks Like Off The Pill

Day 2

Period: Whoooooo! Free of my chemical restraints! Freedom! I’m going party in your uterus like its 1999!

Anne: Why am I crying and laughing at the same time?

Period: hahahahahahahahaha! See ya around, sucker!

It's a shocker! Someone doesn't like the iPhone

It's no secret that Steve Jobs is not my favorite person, and this was too good to pass up. Apple fanboys cover your ears. I came across a comparison of a Nokia E70 to an Apple iPhone, and let's say this guy very passionately loves his Nokia and hates Apple. Click here to read it.

The Three Little Book Reviews

I know I'm behind in my book reviews. So to catch up, I'm doing the last three months in one post (hopefully I can remember what I thought of these books).

Watership Down by Richard Adams
Some consider this a classic advanced children's novel. Children's part I get since it's a story about rabbits. Not quite sure why it's such a beloved book though. Sure the story had a lot of political undercurrent that it can appeal to adults too. And I was definitely involved with the story at the end during the war with the other warren, but on the whole I wasn't that impressed with it. I'm certainly glad I read this book but don't think I'll be reading it again.

The Human Stain by Philip Roth
I had such a difficult time getting through this book. Roth is very verbose and his writing is very dense. Sentences last for many lines and paragraphs take up pages. And it is clear through his writing that Roth is very angry and bitter at the world and most likely a misogynist. The story itself is sort of disjointed and angry and the most fascinating character (at least for me) doesn't appear until the end of the book and only for a handful of pages. If you're a fan of Roth, you might like this book. But if you're looking for a lighter read, this is not it.

The Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox by Maggie O'Farrell
This book reminded me a lot of The Memory Keeper's Daughter. A young woman is put away in an insane asylum because she doesn't fit into the stereotype for women at the time. And the only reason why she's released is because the asylum is closing. Her great-niece takes responsibility for her and while she learns about her aunt she has her own issues of love and relationships to deal with. If The Human Stain is too much for you, this book would probably be more of a fit. While this story would probably make a better Lifetime movie than a book, it is an interesting depiction of social norms and the proper way to live.

Hump Day Humor: Genders

You may not know this but many non-living things have a gender.

1) Ziploc Bags are Male, because they hold everything in, but you can see right through them.

2) Copiers are Female, because once turned off; it takes a while to warm them up again. It's an effective reproductive device if the right buttons are pushed, but can wreak havoc if the wrong buttons are pushed.

3) A Tire is Male, because it goes bald and it's often over-inflated.

4) A Hot Air Balloon is Male, because, to get it to go anywhere, you have to light a fire under it, and of course, there's the hot air part.

5) Sponges are Female, because they're soft, squeezable and retain water.

6) A Web Page is Female because it's always getting hit on.

7) A Subway is Male, because it uses the same old lines to pick people up.

8) An Hour glass is Female, because over time, the weight shifts to the bottom.

9) A Hammer is Male, because it hasn't changed much over the last 5,000 years, but it's handy to have around.

10) A Remote Control is Female. Ha! You thought it'd be male, didn't you? But consider this,-it gives a man pleasure, he'd be lost without it, and while he doesn't always know the right buttons to push, he keeps trying!

And now I update on the go and am constantly checking to see what's being said. But it is so much fun and I am loving the conversations and "meeting" new people. I can't wait to see where this can go! So what does this confession have to do with you Mochaface friend? I've now added a widget on the right side of this blog so you can read my most recent tweets. Also, come follow me on Twitter and let's cause a little bit of mayhem!
